Toddler pictures are notorious for being virtually impossible to get just perfect! First off they don’t want to stay still for anything especially not to take a picture haha. If somehow you do get them to stop moving, more often then not its very hard to get them to look at the camera. Below I will list some tips and tricks to getting better toddler photos…

Getting the toddler to sit somewhere

This is especially helpful for younger toddlers. As kids first start learning to walk they pretty much want to show off their new skills to everyone and anyone! This makes it hard not only because most of us helicopter moms might be hovering over them so they don’t stumble and fall over something or uneven ground. Along with the photo turns out blurry or from an incorrect angle cause you’re chasing a little one. So best choice is to find some beautiful scenery to sit them near. Otherwise, possibly any fun prop you can get your hands on, chair, stump, wagon, rocking horse, etc.

Holding Onto Something

Holding onto something can make all the difference. Especially when little ones are nervous with a new photographer or just new photo location. This can even be super helpful for adults too. People tend to instantly feel more comfortable when they are able to know what to do with their hands. Also for young kids it seems to shift their focus to the flower, small toy, leaf etc whatever you gave them to hold. I often let them have sometime to play with whatever they are holding. This is also helpful because you can capture a lot of candid toddler photos of them playing with nature this way as well.

Show Them Their Photos

Something I have learned about toddlers and babies…They love to see photos and watch videos of themselves! Its a great way to get a genuine smile from a serious baby.
