Truth be told… a lot of mommy to-be’s will tell you pregnancy is not always glamorous. In fact, one of the biggest struggles for maternity photographers or portrait photographer is to make their clients feel like they look truly perfect. Below, I am going to help other photographers and even clients figure out how to create glamorous maternity photos. (See more blogs like this one at this LINK).
Of course we all know that a new mom to be has so much more to worry about than looking perfect. Even thought that is very true, it’s always such an emotional moment when my mommy clients receive their final images. I find so many women calling and thanking me because they are obsessed with their photos. Sometimes even very emotional about how glamorous they look despite how they feel. Pregnancy can definitely take its toll on an expecting mothers body. It’s not always easy to feel great, stunning, or beautiful.
Clean and Simplistic Look
One way to create glamorous maternity photos is to select the best location for your client. This can sometimes be tough in Las Vegas when there aren’t many other options other than desert locations. Don’t get frustrated with the lack of green photography locations in Las Vegas and Henderson area. I really started to search for the beauty in the desert. I started to really believe that the beauty in the desert can be captured in so many different ways. Even though there isn’t tons of greenery and lush trees or shrubs there is still something very appealing to a clean and simplistic look.

The Dry Lake Bed Maternity Photos
This desert image is a great example of how to use a simple color pallet. The Las Vegas Dry Lake Bed being so light in color truly makes the red maternity gown pop. This creates a visually pleasing image, with all the focus drawn to the subject. That is also one of my favorite things about this location. Often I feel many busy locations and/or props can take away from the subject. Which leads to the subject getting lost in the focus of the photo.
Movement and Texture
Don’t forget, adding movement and texture can always elevate your maternity portraits as well. There are many ways to do this, walking, playing, spinning, just have fun with it and you’re sure to find something that looks breathtaking! Also, the texture can be a great way to add dimension to your photography. Here I used the Las Vegas Dry Lake Bed floor with all the cracks in it to really add depth and interest to the images.
Don’t Over Do it
When you’re trying to achieve a glamorous look it can be so easy to really over do it. This is especially true with maternity photography. Ideally, you want the mommy and the beauty of pregnancy to be the main focus. Wearing too much jewelry or too chunky can draw the attention away from mommy. I think in these photos it was a perfect combination of class, elegance, and beauty. In a crazy busy world of everyday yoga pants and messy buns and work im sure it’s nice for my maternity clients to get spruced up for an evening! I think we truly reached our goal to create glamorous maternity photos here. We surely made Mommy feel beautiful and perfect and she looks absolutely stunning.
